| Green Day - one of the world’s biggest rock bands – will be appearing at Kyläsaari (Kalasatama), Helsinki, on Tuesday the 8th of June. The tickets are available from Tiketti on Wednesday the 10th of February 9 am. Green Day’s appearance is part of the band’s hugely successful “21st Century Breakdown Tour”, which began in 2009.
Formed in 1987 by Billie Joe Armstrongin (guitar, vocals), Mike Dirntin (bass) and Tré Coolin (drums), Green Day has come a long way from a underground punk rock trio to one of the biggest rockbands today. The band's early releases for independent record label Lookout! Records earned it a grassroots fanbase, and the bands major label debut Dookie (1994) became a breakout success. Green Day was widely credited, alongside fellow California punk bands The Offspring and Rancid, with reviving mainstream interest in and popularizing punk rock in the United States in the 90's. Green Day's 2004 rock opera American Idiot reignited the band's popularity with a younger generation, selling five million copies in the U.S. The band's eighth studio album, 21st Century Breakdown, was released on May 15, 2009.
Green Day is known for such hits as ”Basket Case”, ”When I Come Around”, “Welcome To Paradise”, ”American Idiot”, ”Holiday”, ”Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” and ”Wake Me Up When September Ends”. Green Day has sold over 22 million records in the United States and won four Grammy Awards.
