SOLANGE
The Grammy-awarded Solange Knowles has taken R&B to a new, multidimensional and experimental path. She is a multimedia artist, who employs music, dance, performance arts, and activism in her expression. Solange’s art has been on display in the Guggenheim in New York and Tate Modern in London. The Harvard Foundation named Solange the Artist of the Year in 2018.
Solange’s third studio album, A Seat at the Table, lift her to the top of Billboard charts and her song Cranes in the Sky was awarded a Grammy. The record praises the African-American communities and womanhood, and one of the songs, F.U.B.U., rose to be the anthem of the Black Lives Matter movement due to its political nature and topicality. Solange’s newest album, When I Get Home, follows the same themes as its predecessors while taking the artist back to her roots, to her hometown of Houston, Texas. In Solange’s music, lingering jazz rhythms and flowy groove merge with electronic drum & bass sounds, creating a mystical, dreamlike and intimate atmosphere. Solange’s concerts intertwine music and visual elements into a serene, yet breathtaking experience.
Over 170 artists perform at the festival, including for example The Cure, Tame Impala, Erykah Badu, Robyn, James Blake, Father John Misty, Tove Lo, Earl Sweatshirt, Neneh Cherry, Blood Orange, and Seinabo Sey.
