Flow Festival’s landmark Balloon 360° stage showcases world-class jazz, topical African sounds, folk music and much more.
As in previous years, Flow Festival’s landmark Balloon stage offers some of the most intimate and impressive experiences the event has to offer. This year the stage is presented in partnership with Nordea, the biggest financial services group in northern Europe. Nordea Globe Balloon stage features Californian psych-folk sensation Jonathan Wilson, rising London-based rapper Flohio, Makaya McCraven, a jazz drummer and composer from Chicago, legendary saxophonist Pharoah Sanders with his ensemble and with two sets, and up-and-coming afro jazz star Nubya Garcia as well as Turkish clarinet virtuoso Cüneyt Sepetçi.
Nordea Globe Balloon stage will also host South African seven-piece BCUC, known for their authentic, traditional and spiritual sound. Ugandan collective Nyege Nyege Tapes brings to Flow Kampire, one of East Africa’s most interesting DJs, and the Tanzanian duo Pamba Bana & Makaveli, pioneers of Tanzania’s burgeoning singeli scene. The hyperkinetic music draws inspiration from house, noise, hardcore techno, rap and advertising jingles.
Nordea Globe Balloon also features the top names in Finnish jazz: saxophonist Timo Lassy together with drummer Teppo Mäkynen, new generation minimalist experimentalists Katu Kaiku and Elifantree, a charming trio featuring voice, tenor sax and percussion. Also slated to perform at the festival are electropop wizard Jaakko Eino Kalevi, newcomer Jesse Markin with his fusion of electro, hip hop and indie, M whose music is a series of dreamlike scenarios couched in powerful electronic/acoustic atmospheres, bowed lyre modernizer Pekko Käppi and his band K:H:H:L, whose music is influenced by folk music, mysticism and popular culture, as well as singer-songwriter Suad with her dramatic indie rock.
