Sampsa Sarparanta’s exhibition Surrounding Reality will be open at Tiketti Galleria until June 12th. Sarparanta has held dozens of private exhibitions during his 20 year artist career and taken part in many co-exhibitions in Finland and abroad. He is also known for his 20 year career as the lead singer-songwriter of No Shame punk group. Among other things Sarparanta has been called "a punk attitude emanating heir of Edelfeldt"’ (Helsingin Sanomat Newspaper, May 2014).
During the Autumn 2016 when No Shame was breaking up, an idea was born that you could tour the counties also with paintings. This exhibition at Tiketti Galleria is part of an art tour that will see the works changing for each exhibition with a carrying theme remaining throughout. The tour will see purposefully selected places, which have never seen Sarparanta’s works before. The tour held six exhibitions during 2017, farthest all the way in Berlin. This year there will be six more with the tour continuing into 2019.
The paintings that will be seen at Tiketti Galleria continue a familiar Sarparanta theme; the portrayal of the human being in the time of digitalisation, never-ending cuts, global capitalism, social media and crazy kings. A person can too easily get lost in all the noise and endless beeping. Even that close person.
In the most recent works Sarparanta aims to bring out something from the opposite of all this: freedom, even if just the momentous or the illusion of freedom, as well as self-worth, new beginnings and the possibility of being something else. The world is infinitely ugly but also infinitely beautiful.
