The American Snoop Dogg, who belongs among the world’s most famous and popular rap artists, has been confirmed as the main performer for Sunday at Ruisrock festival, held between the 6th and 8th of July. Other new additions for the festival at Ruissalo in Turku, are The Rasmus, Disco Ensemble, Olavi Uusivirta and a line-up with a recent cooperative record, formed by the Canadian Moonface and the Finnish Siinai.
During his career, Snoop Dogg has sold over 16 million records, received awards and highest placements in charts. The rapper released his successful eleventh studio album “Doggumentary” last year, a new EP “Stoner’s” last month and is currently working on his next album together with the super producer Diplo who defines the record’s style as reggae. The star himself has described the new record as his rebirth. As a long-term professional, the artist has kept on the cutting edge like for instance, on his last record he cooperated with David Guetta and Wiz Khalifa.
Ruisrock Friday will be intensified with three very current Finnish artists. The Rasmus, who has sold over 3,5 million albums worldwide, has made a comeback to the recording studio and on stages after a four years long break. A new album, carrying the band’s name, was released last month. It was greeted with open arms around Europe and fans have been filling the concert rooms to the brim on the bands international tour.
The most well-known Finnish indie band around the world, Disco Ensemble, is preparing their upcoming album together with the producer Jukka Immonen; some taster has already been given in the form of a studio live recording “Your Shadow”. Both Rasmus and Disco Ensemble are going to play only few chosen festival gigs out of which currently in Finland only at Ruisrock.
One of the most talented and respected artists from the new Finnish singer-songwriter generation, Olavi Uusivirta, released his praised fifth album “Elvis istuu oikealla” early this year. The new record has also brass instruments playing in the background and they will be heard some more next summer at Ruissalo.
One of this year’s biggest indie events will be experienced at Ruissalo on Saturday. The Canadian musician Moonface, known well from Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown has released a mutual record "Heartbreaking Bravery" together with last summer’s critics’ favorite new Finnish star Siinai. The album has been getting praising reviews in world’s music medias and the record’s first single “Teary Eyes and Bloody Lips” collected boost even from Pitchfork.
Azealia Banks who was listed for Ruisrock Friday earlier, has regrettably cancelled almost all her summer festival performances due to pressing recording schedules.
