French composer/musician Yann Tiersen will play his first ever Finnish club show with a six-member band at Tavastia, Helsinki on Monday May 23. Best known for as the composer of the soundtrack for the smash hit movie "Amélie" (2001) Tiersen will perform at Tavastia, Helsinki on Monday May 23. Tickets will be available on Wednesday March 9.
Having studied classic music and piano in his childhood and founded his first post-punk bands in his teens Yann Tiersen composed music to several films before the international hit soundtrack for Amélie in 2001. The success continued with his work for DDR comedy "Goodbye Lenin" in 2003.
For the past years Tiersen has focused on expanding his knowledge in projects outside film industry. His latest album, "Dust Lane" was released in October 2010 sounding more like a band album. The music resembles such groups as Air and M83 at their best and the album offers loads of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Sigur Rós like postrock elements that are backed up with analogical vintage synthesizers and massive stringed instruments.
Having worked with the likes of Tindersticks, Jane Birkin, Divine Comedy, Neil Hannon and Cocteu Twins vocalist Elizabeth Fraser, Yann Tiersen has visited Finland only once at Flow Festival in 2009.
