The world’s most popular artist in electronic music, David Guetta, will conclude the opening night at Ruisrock with unprecedented raves. The festival, held in Ruissalo, Turku between Friday, 4th of July and Sunday the 6th of July has also began the sales of VIP and Ruisrock+ tickets.
The French artist began his DJ career already in the 90’s. In 2009 he made his worldwide breakthrough with his album “One Love”. The album sold over three million copies and included three chart topping singles. Hereafter, almost every one of Guetta’s singles has risen on the top of the charts all over the world. The artist has sold over 20 million records worldwide, and he is also known for collaborating with other most popular artists and producers. The Guetta-phenomenon crosses all genre borders, the star has over 50 million followers on Facebook and he is the most subscribed artist on Spotify. Guetta has been awarded for his music multiple times and he has also been voted as the world’s best DJ.
Earlier this year David Guetta released a new single “Shot Me Down feat Skylar Grey”; the song rose on the top of charts immediately, and for instance gained to top spot on the Finnish Dance Chart. Last Monday the single was followed by a new track “Bad” that Guetta has created together with Showtek. A new album has been promised to be released during 2014.
Another big name for the opening day at Ruisrock is the Californian punk rock band The Offspring that has been celebrating the 20-year-anniversary of their breakthrough album Smash. Ruisrock will get to enjoy the album in depth as the band has informed that they will be playing Smash in its entirety. The album, known for tracks like “Come Out and Play” and “Self Esteem”, has sold over 20 million pieces worldwide and has also made history as the best-selling indie release ever.
The local artist set at Ruisrock has been enforced with Happoradio and JVG, who both have released new albums recently and who both are known for their many hits. The Finnish pop rock giant Happoradio released their sixth album Elefantti after three years since the previous one and gained gold record in just under a week .The rap duo JVG for their part released their awaited album Voitolla yöhön in February and enjoyed the top position on the official album chart for two weeks in a row.
