One of the underground hip hop's most influental acts Pharoahe Monc perform at Hump Day club in Club Yk, Helsinki. The highly respected rap artists rise on stage on Wednesday April 6.
Pharoahe Monch aka Troy Donald Jamerson rose to fame in the 90's as part of the rap duo Organized Konfusion. Respected, but left without bigger attention, the project ended on 1997. After that the artist released his solo debut album as Pharoahe Monch in 1999. The debut album "Internal Affairs" was a success that made Monch one of the most interesting underground hip hop names and was placed on official charts like Billboard. Their first single "Simon Says" is an unquestionable classic in it's genre and after this his music was heard in films such as "Charlie's Angels" and "Boiler Room".
Due to legal dispute concerning the samples in the hit "Simon Says", Pharoahe Monch released his sophomore album not until 2007. His third album "W.A.R. (We Are Renegades)" will be released shortly and brings the artist also at Helsinki. Monch states that the album is a stylitic comeback to the atmosphere of 1993-94, the classic years of rap.
Pharoahe Monch gets his influence for rhymes from jazz and especially from John Coltrane, which explanes his unique and eccentric way of writing. Monch also compares writing lyrics to movie scripts and creating sceens. Monch has been claimed to having produced and acting as a ghostwriter for the hit "Future" for rap star P.Diddy's album "Press Play" together with Mobb Deeb member Havoc.
