Solstice Presents: James K, Pavel Milyakov

Solstice Presents: James K, Pavel Milyakov Liput

On the road toward the longest day of the year, Solstice will host a special prelude concert on June 11th at Temppeliaukio Church in Helsinki — marking our arrival to the season of light.

Solstice Presents is a concert series that steps outside of the dance floor and into more delicate listening situations, where the audience gets to experience transformative music in unique places and settings. The first edition takes place at the renowned Helsinki spot Temppeliaukio Church on June 11th with James K and Pavel Milyakov.

Temppeliaukio Church is a Lutheran church built directly into solid rock, next to the city centre of Helsinki. The main room bathes in natural daylight, which enters the space through the roof’s skylight surrounding the center copper dome. Known for its excellent acoustics, the so-called ‘Rock Church’ is in a league of its own when it comes to the reverberation of sound through space.

1st release tickets for the concert go on sale Thursday, May 8th at 10:00 (EEST / GMT+3) via Tiketti and Resident Advisor. 1st release tickets are priced at 22,5€ + fees, and general release at 30€ + fees.

James K
Pavel Milyakov

Returning to the Solstice program after a spellbinding performance at the 2024 festival, James K brings a singular blend of her own voice, modular electronics, and electric guitar to the stone walls of Temppeliaukio. Her music, a fresh take on pop, where dub, trip hop, and ambient tropes unite to form auditory bliss, has landed onto labels such as PAN, AD 93 and iDEAL, and resulted in collaborations with the likes of Yves Tumor and Coil’s Drew McDowall.

Alongside her, a longtime Solstice associate, buttechno AKA Pavel Milyakov returns to Helsinki with his recent live concept that reveals a more meditative dimension of his work under his birth name. For this special performance, Milyakov premieres collaborative works composed with his close friend and collaborator, Ukrainian artist Yana Pavlova. The two had envisioned performing the pieces together after the war, but following Pavlova’s recent passing, they will now be presented live in Helsinki for the first time.
