At the Wishamalii with Friends concert, the original Wishamalii trio will be joined on stage by three additional artists:
Nemat Battah — vocals, oud
Kari Ikonen — piano (with the Maqiano™ microtuning device), Moog synthesizer
Amir Wahba — percussion
Melisa Yıldırım — kamancha
Mehrnoosh Zolfaghari — santour
Ana Lazar — violin
The evening explores different cultures and skillfully weaves them together through music. Distinctive harmonies, instruments and musical traditions come together seamlessly in this unique ensemble. The concert will feature Wishamalii’s music in an expanded lineup, as well as solo pieces by each of the musicians.
The original Wishamalii lineup consists of three adventurous musicians from very different geographical and musical backgrounds. Having released their debut album, Al-Bahr, on the German label Nordic Notes, the group has captivated audiences with its truly unique sound, rich palette of tonal colors, finely honed interplay and charismatic stage presence.
Adding another extraordinary dimension to the ensemble is pianist Kari Ikonen’s revolutionary invention, the Maqiano microtuning device, which allows him to play Arabic maqam scales and other microtonal intervals on an acoustic piano.
The name Wishamalii refers to a Nordic approach to interpreting Arabic-Andalusian Muwashah songs, although the majority of the group’s repertoire consists of original music composed specifically for this ensemble.
The concert has an intermission.
Cloakroom fee 3 € included in the ticket price.
