Timo Lassy Trio
Saxophinist/composer Timo Lassy is one of the greats in Finnish jazz and ranks among the most lauded names of his generation. His career as a solo artist spans close to 20 years and continuously grows deeper and more layered. Live, Lassy pulls no punches, and his shows are known as events not to be missed. For further evidence, please see the album Live In Helsinki (We Jazz Records, 2025) and move towards the stage. Väreet Festival is proud to also screen the fresh documentary about Timo Lassy and his musical thinking, When the Saxophone Burns, on the day of the show, with the artist present for a Q&A.
The Handover (EG/BE)
The Handover is as much a ritual as it is an ensemble. The trio is blessed with a near-telepathic musical sensitivity that renders each live performance a singular, nuanced experience, grooving deeply despite the absence of percussion. Inspired by the hypnotic, trance-inducing music of Egypt’s Nile Delta, fueled by kraut-like riffs and the intensity of '60s avant-garde jazz, and channeled through roguish improvisation, The Handover’s sound is veritable psychedelia. It is at once futuristic and primordial, yet, with the utter urgency of its testament, it demands lucidity.
