An evening with Timo Lassy includes the screening of the film "Kun saksofoni palaa" at 6 PM, followed by a Timo Lassy Band concert at 8 PM. Combining elements of a music documentary and a personal portrait, Petri Luukkainen’s film explores the inner world of saxophonist Timo Lassy, long regarded as one of the leading figures in Finnish jazz.
“What makes me happy as a human being and as an artist?” asks Lassy, who is struggling with ageing and major life changes, having realized that he can no longer continue living the way he once did. In addition to following a concert held at the church of Loviisa, the film also captures Lassy’s preparations for the performance. Moments of introspection reveal to the audience that even a seasoned professional who has toured the world can sometimes be plagued by self-doubt.
The documentary will be followed by a performance by the Timo Lassy Band, featuring Georgios Kontrafouris (piano), Antti Lötjönen (bass), Abdissa “Mamba” Assefa (percussions), and Okko Saastamoinen (drums).
