Scottish Music Night: Dàimh + Rachel Hair & Ron Jappy
Fresh from Scotland! Not only bagpipes and harps, but also modern instruments and a fresh approach to traditional music-making. The two artists of the evening are united by influences drawn from Scotland’s west coast and a bold drive to renew Celtic music for the present day. Welcome to Ceòlas Tour night at G Livelab!
In the duo of Rachel Hair and Ron Jappy, two string instruments come together: the traditional Scottish harp (clàrsach) and acoustic guitar. Their passion for traditional music is evident in reels and jigs, but the duo has developed their sound into powerful interpretations of both old and new compositions—described by some as almost electric.
Dàimh is a five-piece ensemble whose instrumentation includes traditional bagpipes and fiddle, yet whose music sounds thoroughly fresh. This is not least thanks to the rapidly rising Scottish singer Ellen MacDonald, who has brought the band further into the spotlight. The Celtic name Dàimh means unity and kindred spirit, a concept that has carried the group for over 20 years.
