Soulful blues rock, dynamic vocals, and world-class slide guitar!
Micke Björklöf & Blue Strip is a premier flagbearer of Finnish blues rock and one of the country's most internationally successful roots music acts. Björklöf has released 13 albums with his bands, performed in nearly 20 countries, and earned acclaim for his bold, genre-defying expression. The band is now celebrating their 35th anniversary with a tour that offers audiences an intense cross-section of their recorded output.
The distinctive sound of Micke Björklöf & Blue Strip draws deep from the roots of blues—ranging from raw delta blues to the electric masters of Chicago. The band combines this traditional foundation with modern blues rock, New Orleans groove, and percussive rhythms. Along the way, they have drawn influences from artists such as Son House, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Neville Brothers, Little Feat, Gov’t Mule, and Santana. The band brings all of this to the stage with a powerful, infectious live energy and a good-humored attitude: blues doesn’t have to be taken too seriously—live, the main thing is the joy of playing together and a full-on grooving vibe.
The soul of the band is Micke Björklöf's powerful and nuanced vocals, complemented by Ville ”Lefty” Leppänen's sovereign, world-class slide guitar work. Their versatile and personal instrumentation, featuring percussion, adds its own unique flavor. Their authentic sound has forged into a seamless whole, as the band's core group has remained nearly unchanged since 1998. This is visible and audible on stage as a rare dynamic that consistently draws the audience right in.
The band has collaborated with world-class creators—their albums have been produced by, among others, multi-Grammy-winning British producer legend John Porter (known for his work with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Keb’ Mo’, Roxy Music, and Santana, among others), Mark Bingham, and acclaimed engineer Neil Brockbank. Grammy-winner John Porter has described the band with the words: "This is a hard-hitting blues band with very accomplished and focused musicians."
Throughout their history, multiple albums by Micke Björklöf & Blue Strip have topped blues radio charts in countries such as the UK, Australia, and France. The band has been awarded twice at the Finnish Blues Awards, alongside receiving numerous Album of the Year selections and nominations across various media both domestically and internationally.
