Vapaat äänet 30 vuotta: Lotus Flowers (Bruno Angelini - Angelika Niescier - Sakina Abdou) + Antti Lötjönen (solo) Tickets

To celebrate its 30th anniversary this autumn, producer Charles Gil’s Vapaat äänet presents two distinctive projects at G Livelab Tampere: pianist Bruno Angelini’s Lotus Flowers Trio, featuring saxophonists Sakina Abdou and Angelika Niescier, and a solo performance by Finnish bassist Antti Lötjönen from his acclaimed Circus/Citadel project.

Inspired by the lotus flower as a symbol of beauty emerging from turmoil, Angelini’s Lotus Flowers pays tribute to figures who worked for the common good, including Wayne Shorter, Jane Addams, Berta Cáceres and Nelson Mandela. At the heart of the music are expressive melodies interpreted with freedom, intensity and lyrical depth by Angelini, Abdou and Niescier. Since its formation in 2024, the trio has toured extensively across France, Germany and Austria, and released its debut album on Abalone Records in spring 2025.

French pianist Bruno Angelini is a highly respected figure on the European jazz scene, known for collaborations with artists such as Kenny Wheeler, Louis Sclavis, Andrew Cyrille and Reggie Workman. Saxophonist Angelika Niescier, winner of the Deutscher Jazzpreis 2024, is one of Europe’s most influential contemporary jazz voices. French saxophonist Sakina Abdou has emerged as a leading improviser of her generation, performing internationally and participating in projects such as The Bridge.

Opening the evening, Antti Lötjönen presents a new solo double bass programme exploring the full sonic spectrum of the instrument. Blending composition and improvisation, the performance highlights every nuance, texture and resonance of the bass. One of Finland’s leading jazz musicians, Lötjönen has performed in more than 30 countries and appeared on over 100 recordings with groups including Ilmiliekki Quartet, The Five Corners Quintet and Verneri Pohjola Quartet. His work has been recognised with the Yrjö Award (2024) and Pori Jazz Artist of the Year (2015).

Produced by Solange & Vapaat äänet.
Tour support: AJC, Adami, CNM and Spedidam.
