Kristoffersson - Wretling Duo, feat: Matias Långbacka

Over the past three years, the Kristoffersson-Wretling Duo has refined its precise and swinging interplay while developing a repertoire consisting of music by composers from Västmanland, Sweden. The duo has put its own distinctive stamp on music ranging from local traditional folk fiddlers of earlier generations to more contemporary artists, including names such as Pugh Rogefeldt and Esbjörn Svensson.

Double bassist Jenny Kristoffersson, with family roots in Åland, has over the years collaborated with artists such as Thomas Darelid and Teresa Indebetou. Her playing brings warmth and a deep love of swing to the duo’s music.

Saxophonist Ida Wretling’s playing is marked by curiosity and energy. She is known for her work with her own band IdKa Jazz, as well as with the Kathrine Windfeld Big Band and the duo Medi. In 2023, IdKa Jazz released the critically acclaimed album Chapter Two.

Both Ida and Jenny have contributed to numerous recordings, appeared on radio and television, taught at music conservatories, and toured actively both in Sweden and internationally.

At the atmospheric church in Houtskär, music from Västmanland and the Turku archipelago will meet as the duo is joined by Turku-based trumpeter Matias Långbacka, whose expressive trumpet playing has delighted festival audiences in Korpo for many years. The audience can expect a concert filled with swing, soul and innovative arrangements.
