One of the biggest Finnish pop phenomena of the early 2000s, Killer quickly rose to become one of the most talked-about domestic pop-rock bands of its time. Formed in 1999 in the corridors of Helsinki’s legendary Lepakko venue, the band’s original lineup included Aki Hakala and Antti Eräkangas, who would later go on to join Kwan and The Rasmus. However, after the Dynasty collective reshuffled its ranks, Killer’s lineup settled into its most recognized form: Siiri Nordin (vocals), Tuomas Norvio (guitar), Teijo Jämsä (drums), and Timo Huhtala (bass).
The band’s debut album Sickeningly Pretty & Unpleasantly Vain was released in 2001. Produced by The Rasmus members Lauri Ylönen and Pauli Rantasalmi, the album’s second single “All I Want” performed well on the Finnish charts and also gained rotation on MTV Nordic, which at the time served as a significant gateway to international markets and helped open doors for Killer in Europe. With the release of their second album Sure You Know How To Drive This Thing in 2003, Killer toured Central Europe both on their own and as a supporting act for HIM and The Rasmus. The hit single “Naughty Boy” from the album cemented the band’s status on the Finnish live scene as well—between 2002 and 2004, Killer played up to around 200 shows per year. Their energetic and wild live performances became a defining trademark.
Now, the band is making a return both to the studio and to the stage. From the original lineup, Siiri Nordin and Teijo Jämsä are involved. They are joined by bassist Jarkko Toivanen and guitarist Matias Kiiveri. The band will be seen performing live during the summer.
