Freud Marx Engels & Jung frontman Pekka Myllykoski died in the spring
2017.
“Freud Marx Engels & Jung no longer exists and will never exist,” said Arto Pajukallio, one of the band’s founding members. “But of course, anyone who wants to can perform the band’s music!”
And many have wanted to. “I never imagined that I would be asked to perform on so many different
Freukkari concerts,” Pajukallio says.
Freud Marx Engels & Jung, or Freukkarit, was originally formed in 1984 to perform Finnish-language versions of outlaw country songwriters. Although the mission guidelines were adhered to, the limitations of styles and themes were immediately broken. The band made a dozen albums and over time it included thirty permanent members.
“It would be nice to play old Freukkari songs again sometime,” Jussi Kinnunen, who played in the band for over a decade, once said. He slowly put together the group Freud Marx Engels & Jung Revisited, known colloquially as Revarit.
Eventually, the line-up also included people who had been influential in Freukkari for a long time, but never at the same time. Revarit also wants to have guest soloists. Among them, Maria Hänninen, Freukkari’s backing singer and co-instrument since the early days, has already emerged as a regular guest star. “The men are wonderful,” she also sings in her song, after which the entire Revarit debut album was named.
