During the opening concert of Fest Afrika festival, Telakka lights up with a performance by the Baraka Issabu Quintet, a Helsinki-based afrojazz/afrofusion ensemble. The ensemble’s music, composed and arranged by Baraka Issabu, is built on East African rhythms and melodies expanded through jazz harmony and improvisation. The quintet, consisting of Tanzanian and Finnish musicians, will enchant both jazz audiences and fans of African music with its deep grooves and intense live presence. The concert is part of the Jazz in Finland 100 Anniversary Year and it also celebrates the journey of Fest Afrika festival, which started under the roof of Telakka 25 years ago.
