After nearly a decade of musical friendship, it feels only natural that Pekka Kuusisto and cult-acclaimed American singer-songwriter Gabriel Kahane have formalized their collaboration under the name Council. They now present an evening program of intimate and sonically diverse songs and chamber music works, written over the course of several writing retreats in Kesälahti, North Karelia, and Portland, Oregon.
With their new material, Kuusisto & Kahane seek to locate the universal within the personal, and vice versa. The program offers stories of individual and collective grief; nostalgia, youth, and playful engagement with memory; violence and revenge; as well as the joy, wonder, and bewilderment of fatherhood in an era of global instability. As these two relentlessly curious artists explore and deepen their friendship on stage, they also present a musical tapestry that reflects the complexity of life in the 21st century.
Pekka Kuusisto – violin, vocals, harmonium, loops, electronics
Gabriel Kahane – piano, vocals, electric & acoustic guitar, harmonium, loops
Cloakroom fee 3 € included in the ticket price.
