Baritone Aarne Pelkonen is one of the most sought-after opera and concert singers of his generation in Finland. Aarne is a versatile artist whose flexible instrument has been heard in a wide range of repertoire, from baroque to modern and from opera to chamber music. Aarne's voice has been described as warm, bright and nuanced.
Aarne Pelkonen's musical roots lie in church music and German-language solo songs. An important thread in his career has been his almost 20-year collaboration with pianist Juho Alakärpä. The duo's latest release, Schubert: Winterreise (2025), was received with praise. Risto Nordell (Yle) described the album as an "incident" in Finnish Lied art. Yle's Kare Eskola, on the other hand, wrote of the duo's previous album Last Songs (2023) that Aarne's "baritone plays with great tension".
