The Tapiola Chamber Choir turns 40 this year! In their Annunciation concert you’ll get to hear the Virgin Mary themed pieces from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Early Baroque period. The choir will be performing pieces from Alonso Lobo, Tomás Luis da Victoria, and Heinrich Schützi among others. The program is a rare performance but the music offers a wondrous journey to the history of western classical music prior to Bach and Händel.
Tapiola Chamber Choir has since its inception in 1983 been in the top tier of the Finnish choral scene. Hailing from Espoo, the choir has been led by f.ex. Eric- Olof Söderström and Juha Kuivanen, with current artistic director, Doctor of Music Hannu Norjanen, having held the position since 1998. Guest conductors on various projects have included, among others, Harry Christophers, Paul Hillier and Peter Schreier. The choir’s repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary music, with a special emphasis on romantic and newer material.
