and then they left

and then they left is a puddle and an ocean of lies, liquids and truths. It is a watery yet dry magic trick that wants to fall towards an uncategorised space and pleasure.

hot, wet and tired bodies (figure) floating in decades of saliva
vivid logic open mouth waiting for the arrival
Hot, wet and tired
Body waters poured into the river, waiting their rider/diver
Count your tears while i wash away your fears
and lay me bare me open try me lie to me
water water me, mother medea milk me
I’m hot, wet and tired
slippery and moist, lies turn into fire
who is a lier? who lied? wo ist lier? wer ist lier?
water water me and lay me bare me open try me lie to me
I swear, I swear so long my tongue will strangle you
hot, wet and tired

Open your mouth, my maiden name is medea

and then they left looks at Euripides`s ancient Greek tragedy Medea (431 BC) and painter Artemisia Gentileschi ’s interpretation of the same myth (1620). The performance is not a new version of Medea; instead it takes and leaves the historical art object and questions narratives that are prevalent within the canon of storytelling.

The play by Euripides is a narrative of the protagonist’s systematic revenge, while for Gentileschi revenge is an artistic choice to alter the positions of power in her paintings. and then they left positions itself in an intergenerational continuum, rerouting the gestures of revenge and solidarity and their magic potential in cutting the attachment between history and patriarchy.
