Helsinki Lit -livestream 22.-23.5.2026

The international guest authors of the Helsinki Lit – Festival of Translated Literature, held at Helsinki Culture House on 22–23 May, include American writers Rachel Kushner and Tara Menon, Spanish author Alana S. Portero, Italian author Vincenzo Latronico, Swedish writers Lina Wolff, Lena Andersson and Mattias Timander, Danish author Jonas Eika, Ukrainian author Yevheniya Kuznetsova and British historian Antony Beevor. The festival will once again be hosted by actress Alma Pöysti.

American author Rachel Kushner has written the New York Times bestselling novels Creation Lake and The Mars Room, and her works have been translated into 27 languages. At Helsinki Lit, she will be interviewed by writer and professor Jussi Valtonen.

Indian-born American writer Tara Menon is an Assistant Professor of English at Harvard University. Translation rights to her debut novel A Better Life have been sold to more than 30 countries. At Helsinki Lit, Menon will be interviewed by journalist Adile Sevimli.

Historian, novelist, playwright and LGBTQ activist Alana S. Portero’s debut work Bad Habit has become one of the most acclaimed and award-winning Spanish novels of recent years. At Culture House, Portero will appear in conversation with Mira Eskelinen, CEO and producer of Tekstin talo.

Italian author Vincenzo Latronico’s internationally acclaimed novel Perfection was shortlisted for the International Booker Prize in 2025. At Helsinki Lit, Latronico will be interviewed by the festival’s programme director, author Philip Teir.

Critically acclaimed Lina Wolff is among the few writers to have won Sweden’s most prestigious literary award twice. At Helsinki Lit, Wolff will meet fellow author Pajtim Statovci, a two-time winner of Finland’s Finlandia Prize.

Lena Andersson is one of Sweden’s best-known and most discussed authors, columnists and social commentators. At Helsinki Lit, Andersson will be interviewed by Member of the European Parliament Li Andersson.

Mattias Timander from Kiruna made his literary breakthrough with his debut novel The Forest Never Leaves You, which has received critical acclaim in Sweden and whose translation rights have been sold to several countries. Timander will be interviewed by author Juha Itkonen.

Known for his original and experimental style, Jonas Eika gained international recognition with his short story collection After the Sun, which won the prestigious Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2019. At Helsinki Lit, Eika will be joined in conversation by writer and spoken word artist Niko Hallikainen.

Yevheniya Kuznetsova is a Ukrainian author, translator and postdoctoral researcher. Her acclaimed novel Ask Mia was nominated for the 2022 European Union Prize for Literature. At Helsinki Lit, Kuznetsova will be interviewed by author Elina Hirvonen.

Historian, professor and bestselling author Antony Beevor is known for his numerous acclaimed works on the Second World War. Beevor will arrive at Helsinki Lit to discuss his new book Rasputin and the Fall of the Romanovs, which will be published in Finnish (translated by Jouni Avelin) in spring 2026. The book is a biography of Rasputin, one of the most mythical figures in Russian history. Beevor will be interviewed by Finlandia Prize-winning author Sirpa Kähkönen.

Helsinki Lit will be held for the 12th time this year. Festival tickets have sold out early almost every year, and Helsinki Culture House is set to host the largest translated literature festival in its history in May 2026.

You can watch the stream event on this website. The broadcast starts approximately five minutes before the event begins.

You can watch the broadcast by entering your 13-digit entry code into the spot above.

The broadcast isn’t visible when the event starts – refresh the browser and re-enter your code if needed.

The broadcast keeps pausing or there’s no sound – stop the record for a moment and start it again. If your problem didn’t dissapear, check your device’s internet connection and sound settings. There might be problems if your connection is slow or unstable.
