Love, Virtual Me
Diina Bukareva’s performance Love, Virtual Me explores the individual desire to make the private into public by camouflaging it into the shadows of various roles. The performance is inspired by artist self-portraits.
The project explores abrasions between real and virtual roles, the conflict between proximity and distance in visual interaction, and the theme of selfishness in the portrayal of individuality.
Virtual reality makes me a spectator and a judge of myself. The selfie is the pool of Narcissus, my portrait a window to my identity. Desire is imitation. Art is imitation and repetition. Imitation is not lie. It is not real nor imaginary. It is absence at the edge of presence.
This visit is made possible by the Pirkanmaa Dance Centre.

The home is a desert. Empty cans rattle on the kitchen floor and a pond has escaped from the full sink. A mountain rises in the background, crawling with tiny mountaineers, and the sun rolls across the window as if forced to do so. It all looks like a nature document. Under the ground lies a hidden treasure, perhaps, or idk.
If beetles were to make a nature documentary of humans, how would it look like? Jouni Järvenpää’s entertainingly absurd solo piece Skarabee crawls out again, pushing on the October sun. The performance is built on 1 740 unopened cans and Timo O. Nenonen’s ambiguos installation. It is a clear close-up of the on-stage tension, the sensitivity of presence, and the situations suggested by randomness.
The guest performance is made possible by Regional Dance Centre of Western Finland.
