Paola Suhonen’s photo exhibition reflecting on love and the finiteness of time opens at Tiketti Galleria on 28th of September.
On Tiketti Galleria’s exhibition photographs these themes are processed through one of the best known Hollywood porn stars, Nina Hartley’s portraits. What are our chances of building a life of our own without norms?
Hartley, who has worked in the porn industry for over 30 years, has built herself into a Brand. She has been a vocal defender of sexual openness and the documentary also handles the freedom of an individual and the permission to do what they want with their bodies, regardless of age or the common norms. Hartley also reflects about ageing and body: who does sexuality belong to?
Paola Suhonen is fascinated with Hartley because of the ambition and bravery that she lives by through her own life choices. In their desire for acceptance people, also as artists, end up censoring their own doings. Who determines in which box each of us belong to?, Suhonen asks.
Paola Suhonen (b. 1974) filmed an experimental documentary about Hartley (b. 1959) over a period of 8 years. Through this documentary Suhonen developed a technique that enables single frames from 16mm film to be used as still photos. The documentary will be screened during the Portrait of a Pornstar –exhibition. The exact show-time will be confirmed later.
Pro Finlandia award-winner Suhonen is known for her fashion and lifestyle brand Ivana Helsinki that she founded and designs for, and as an animal rights advocate. The artist who has written children’s books, graduated as a filmmaker from American Film Institute.
